Hot Tub & Spa Health Benefits

Are hot tubs good for your health?

Having a hot tub in your home, might make you feel like a bit of a rockstar, but are there hot tub health benefits?

For thousands of years, the healing properties of water have been used across cultures. This prompted the birth of the modern day Hot Tub. Hot Tubs utilise water heat and pressure to mimic the benefits of natural hot spring from the comfort of your very own home.

Hydrotherapy

What cause all these benefits you ask? The answer is Hydrotherapy. Hydrotherapy  is the use of warm water in pain relief and health treatment. It encompasses a large range of therapeutic approaches that manipulate the physical properties of water such as temperature and pressure for remedial purposes.

Here are just some of the benefits that hydrotherapy can help deliver through the use of a Spa or Hot Tub:

1. Lower Blood Pressure & Increase Cardiovascular Health

A short soak in a Hot Tub can emulate the benefits of a moderate work out. Wow! Count us in.

Hot Tubs increase the heart rate, and makes it easier for the heart to pump blood around the body. But unlike exercise it does this in the absence of raising blood pressure. This is caused by the heat of the Hot Tub increasing blood flow, which subsequently causes the blood vessels to dilate and the blood pressure to drop.

Excellent news for anyone wanting to reap the benefits of exercise, while keeping stress on the heart low!

2. Get your beauty sleep

Soaking in warm water approximately 90 minutes before your bed time can lower your body’s internal thermostat. This helps you achieve the magic 8-10 hours sleep.

How you ask?

The hot tub raises your body temperature, in turn this is followed by a drop in body temperature when you leave the hot tub. This results in the release of sleep catalysing endorphins, that induce a deeper and more peaceful sleep.

Hot Tubs are highly recommended are part of a comprehensive treatment for chronic arthritis. Soaking for just 15 minutes daily can help to improve coordination and flexibility and increases blood flow to the body’s extremities.

The Coast Spas swim spa and wellness range is designed to help used exercise with ease. They are equipped with bars and exercise bands to allow exercise in a low impact environment. Thus putting less stress on joints.

4. Stress Relief

Stress can have a detrimental effect on our overall health, with side effects including: low energy; headaches and poor digestion. It’s something that is hard to avoid in the modern world. Learning to combat and manage any acute of chronic life stresses is extremely important.

Envisage yourself lounging in a Hot Tub. I bet you can feel your cortisol levels drop as you are reading – so just imagine what the actual experience can do for stress levels. Soaking in a hot tub at the end of the day is a guaranteed stress buster. Lie back, relax and watch the world go by (and your cortisol go down).

5. Muscle Relaxation

Heat relaxes muscles by improving blood flow to the body, allowing oxygen and other nutrients to circulate the body faster. This banishes the painful and dreaded effect of exercise, lactic acid, which can lead to aching muscles.

Baths are amazing for relaxing your muscles, whether it be from a long day; a tough workout or specific injury related pain, but the problem with a bath is that, it immediately starts to lose temperature. Unlike a bathtub, a Hot Tub maintains the set temperature, enabling the blood to circulate at this heated temperature for longer, and delivering the therapeutic benefits for an extended time.

6. Massage

There is nothing better than lying against a powerful hot tub jet while it pummels away your muscle pain.

Jump in your Hot Tub and reap the benefits of a massage whenever you feel like it. Most quality Hot Tub brands (including Coast Spas) will have the option to alter the pressure of the jets, allowing you to tailor the hydrotherapy massage properties to your own needs. The jets act as a massage as the water rejuvenates overused and tired muscles – all from the comfort of your own home.
