Why is a hot tub cover important?
We talk a lot about energy efficiency and hot tubs. We’re basically on a mission to make your hot tub a giant thermos that keeps the heat in and doesn’t cost a bomb to run.
This is achieved using a well insulated hot tub cover. 60% of the hot tub heat is lost through the surface of the water. So we need something that is going to trap that heat inside, and keep the hot tub at a toasty temperature without haemorrhaging money.
But in order for the hot tub cover to effectively keep the heat in. It needs to be in good condition.
What hot tub cover problems do we see?
There are two common problems that we see with hot tub covers, which are both really one in the same.
1. My hot tub cover is water logged and heavy
2. My hot tub cover is damaged
The underside of a good hot tub cover is protected by a thick wax like protective surface.
When a hot tub cover is damaged from wear and tear or unbalanced hot tub chemicals. The hot tub cover absorbs water. When this happens not only does your hot tub cover look a bit worse for wear. But it becomes extremely heavy. And almost impossible to lift off.
Do I need a hot tub cover lift?
We almost always sell cover lifts with every hot tub we install.
So we would say yes to this question.
Install a cover lift to solve both the above problems.
With a cover lift installed your hot tub cover will be:
1. Easier to lift
2. Less prone to wear and tear
Therefore it is less likely to take on water. And will stay energy efficient for longer.
A cover lift is not necessary. But we always recommend people install a hot tub cover lift.
If you haven’t got one don’t worry. Almost all hot tubs are compatible with hot tub cover lifts. And they can be retrofitted.
