Master Spas hot tub error messages (and how to fix them)

My Master Spas hot tub isn't working

Master Spas are a North American manufactured hot tub. Made in their manufacturing plant in Fort Wayne, Indiana. 

Their UK supplier is Hot Tub Superstore and Grizzly Bear Hot Tubs. They supply and install all over the UK. So there is likely to be a lot of them floating about around the country.

If your hot tub isn’t working, it might be flashing a hot tub error message.

Below is a list of the common Master Spas hot tub error messages that are likely to show. And more importantly, how to fix those problems.

Most of the things that go wrong you should be able to fix yourself. For more serious hot tub problems you may need to contact a supplier. 

Master Spas error codes

Error MessageProbable CauseRecommended Action
No message on display.
Power has been cut off to the spa.
The control panel will be disabled until power returns.
Time of day will be preserved for 30 days on your system.
Spa settings are preserved on all systems.
OHH"Overheat" - The spa has shut down. On some systems an alarm may sound. One of the sensors has detected 47.8 degrees C at the heater.DO NOT ENTER THE WATER.
Remove the spa cover and allow water to cool.
Once the heater has cooled, reset by pushing any button. If the hot tub does not reset, shut off power to the spa and call your supplier for a service.
OHS"Overheat" - The spa has shut down. One of the sensors has detected that the spa water is 43.3 degress C.DO NOT ENTER THE WATER.
Remove the spa cover and allow water to cool. At 41.7 the spa should automatically reset. If spa does not reset, shut off power to the spa and call your supplier for a service.
ICE'Ice' - potential freeze condition detected.No action required. The pumps will automatically activate regardless of the spa status.
SnASpa has shut down. The sensor that is plugged in 'A' jack is not working.If the problem persists call your supplier for service. (May appear temporarily in response to an overheat condition and then disappear when heater cools).
SnbSpa has shut down. The sensor that plugs into jack 'B' is not working.If the problem persists, contact your supplier for a service. (May appear temporarily in response to an overheat condition then disappear when heater cools).
SnSSensors are out of balance. If alternating with spa temperature, it may just be temporary. If the display just shows this message (periodically blinking), the spa has shut down.If problem persists, contact supplier for service.
HFLA substantial difference between temperature sensors has been detected. This could indicate a flow problem.Check water level in spa. Refill if necessary.
If the water level is okay, make sure all the pumps have been primed.
If the problem persists, contact your supplier for a service.
LFPersistent low flow problems. (Displays on the 5th occurrence of HFL message in 24 hours). Heater has shut down, but other spa functions continue to run normally.Follow action required for the (HFL) message. Heating capability of the spa will now reset automatically. You may press any button to reset.
drInadequate water detected in heater.Check water level for spa. Refill if necessary.
If the water level is okay, make sure all pumps are primed.
Press any button to reset.
drYInadequate water detected in the heaters (displays on 3rd occurrence of 'dr' message). Spa is shut down.Follow action required for (dr) message. Spa will not automatically reset. Press any button to reset manually.
PrWhen your spa is first activated, it will go into priming mode.See the M-7 installation instruction manual for complete instructions on Power-up and pump priming.
The priming mode will last for up to 4 minutes and then the spa will begin to heat and maintain the water temperature in standard mode.

Temperature unknown.After the pump has been running for 2 minutes the temperature will be displayed.
--Temperature not currently available in Economy of Sleep mode.In Economy of Sleep mode, the pump may be off for hours outside a filter.
If you wish to see the current spa temperature, either switch to standard mode or turn jets 1 on for at least two minutes.
SbYStandby mode has been activated by pressing a button combination on the user panel.Press any button to leave standby mode and return to normal operation.

If the problem persists. Or if your hot tub doesn’t have an error message. You may need to contact your local supplier, or the company that looks after your hot tub.

These are designed to help you remember to undertake proper water care and maintenance.

Improper water maintenance is one of the biggest causes of premature hot tub issues as it can damage hot tub components.
